Aluminium Oxalate
Chemical Formula:
Al₂(C₂O₄)₃
CAS Number:
Not widely documented
Description:
Aluminium Oxalate is an inorganic aluminium salt of oxalic acid. It is primarily used in specialized chemical applications, including textile dyeing, water treatment, and as an intermediate in the synthesis of other aluminium compounds. Due to its limited solubility in water, it is used in controlled-release applications and certain industrial processes.
Characteristics:
- Appearance: White crystalline powder
- Solubility: Slightly soluble in water, soluble in acids
- Stability: Stable under normal conditions, but decomposes at high temperatures
- Reactivity: Reacts with strong acids and bases
- Decomposition: Releases carbon dioxide and aluminium oxide when heated
Applications:
- Textile & Leather Industry:
- Used as a mordant in dyeing processes to fix colors.
- Water Treatment:
- Utilized in coagulation and flocculation for wastewater treatment.
- Chemical Synthesis:
- Precursor in the preparation of aluminium-based catalysts and compounds.
- Ceramics & Coatings:
- Applied in heat-resistant coatings and ceramic formulations.
Handling & Storage:
- Store in a cool, dry place, away from moisture.
- Avoid contact with strong acids and bases.
- Use protective gloves, goggles, and masks to prevent inhalation and skin exposure.
- Dispose of waste in accordance with local environmental regulations.
